Medina is Islam's second holiest city, home to Al-Masjid al-Nabawi (The Prophet's Mosque) built by the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Visiting the mosque and offering salutations at the Prophet's tomb is a spiritual obligation for millions of Muslims. Other sites include the Quba Mosque (first mosque in Islam), Masjid al-Qiblatayn, and the historic Uhud battlefield. Only Muslims may enter the core religious areas.
